Kathryn R. Simpson, M.S.,
has authored four books on anti-aging/endocrine topics including: Overcoming Adrenal Fatigue (New
Harbinger Publications), The Women’s Guide to Thyroid Health (NHP), The
MS Solution (Los Olivos Pub) and co-authored The Perimenopause
& Menopause Workbook (NHP).
She
became passionate about the importance of endocrine and immune functions in
health when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and embarked on a medical
detective hunt to resolve her symptoms. This led her to discover that her
progressive symptoms of MS were caused by serious endocrine deficiencies.
Today, with hormone
replacement including
bio-identical adrenal and thyroid hormones, she is completely healthy and
symptom-free.
Ms. Simpson then founded The Hormone Resource Center, a
new concept in healthcare, combining scientific research with individualized
endocrine evaluation and treatment to ensure that patients benefit from rapidly
advancing medical discoveries and treatment protocols.
Her
research, coupled with personal health concerns, caused Ms. Simpson to become
interested in identifying therapies that fall outside the normal parameters of
pharmaceutical development, specifically bio-identical hormones which, as
natural substances, can’t be patented and are generally ignored by the
pharmaceutical industry. She founded Cerulean Pharmaceutical, a biotechnology
company focused on developing these therapies for degenerative conditions and
diseases.
Prior
to starting Cerulean, Ms. Simpson spent 20+ years in executive positions at
biotech and technology firms. Ms. Simpson received a Bachelor’s degree from
Ohio Wesleyan University and a Master of Science degree from USC.
