I write extensively on alcohol,
alcoholism, addiction, and health. Most of your listeners don't even
know that the number one drug of abuse -- in America and globally -- is
alcohol.
I am a journalist and author of four
books on alcoholism, alcohol, and health. I would welcome the
opportunity to share with The Bob Charles Show listeners vital
information about alcohol and health beyond the disease of alcoholism.
Eight percent of the population has the disease of alcoholism – chronic,
progressive, fatal, incurable but treatable – millions more abuse
alcohol – and each alcoholic or alcohol abuser affects an average of
eight more people. What's more of a story, however, is that an alcohol
pandemic kills 89,000 Americans annually and has a $250 billion price
tag every year.
Among the topics I cover competently:
My best-selling second book, 2013's Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud: Relapse and the Symptoms of Sobriety, explores new research into why nine of ten people in sobriety relapse at least once. My third title, 2015's Adding Fire to the Fuel, addresses the stigma of alcoholism and is another award-winner. My
fourth book, a December 2016 release, is in response to the Surgeon
General's Report on Alcohol, Drugs and Health published a month earlier.
I point out what the Surgeon General got wrong based on the research
behind all three of my preceding books.
I
report exclusively on alcohol and health issues for a variety of online
news sites including google news and the world's largest medical
portal, HealthTap, where I am among its Founding Influencers. I author a
blog covering alcohol issues in the news and an app, Alcohology, as
well. My educational DVD called The A-Files: Alcohol A-Z, just launched last summer.
